Model Coach — beta, updated October 2026

What is Model Coach?

Model Coach helps VDC, BIM, and construction data managers understand the quality, structure, and usability of Navisworks models they receive from third parties. It runs a set of automated checks and returns a plain-language report — coach in tone, auditor in rigor.

Getting started

There are two ways to bring a model in:

  • Upload a file — drag a .nwd or .nwc file directly from your computer. The file is uploaded securely to your workspace; checking starts automatically.
  • Connect to Autodesk Forma — authorise Model Coach to read models from your Autodesk hub (Forma / ACC / BIM 360 all use the same underlying platform). Once connected, you can browse your hubs and pick the model you want to check without downloading it first.

After a model is checked, results appear in the right-hand drawer. The 3D viewer opens on the left. You can preview the geometry of an unchecked version at any time without consuming a check.

What the checks cover

  • Source-application detection — identifies which authoring systems (AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, PDMS / AVEVA, SmartPlant, and more) contributed geometry to the model. For federated models, Model Coach reports per-system and flags multi-system assemblies.
  • Unique ID coverage — measures what share of objects carry a stable, non-Navisworks-generated identifier. Low coverage means change-tracking, clash de-duplication, and downstream data joins will be unreliable. The report breaks down coverage by branch, system, and ID type (own vs. assembly vs. Navisworks fallback).
  • File hierarchy / federation depth — maps the nested-file structure of federated models and reports how many levels deep it goes. Unexpectedly flat or unexpectedly deep hierarchies are flagged for review.

More checks are in development. The admin surface lets workspace admins tune the source-system registry and correct misdetections without a code deploy.

Versions and history

Every time you upload a new version of the same model, or Model Coach detects a new version in your Autodesk hub, it creates a new version entry in the ledger. Older versions stay available for comparison. Version history chips appear at the top of the report drawer.

Team access

You can invite colleagues to your workspace. Everyone in a workspace sees the same models and reports. Workspace owners can rename the workspace from the Administration page (accessible from the account menu).

Browser requirements

The 3D viewer requires WebGPU support. Chrome 113+, Edge 113+, and Safari 18+ support WebGPU. Firefox does not yet support it by default. If your browser can't run the viewer, Model Coach will tell you and the report will still work normally.

Data and privacy

Your models and reports are private to your workspace. Codoo staff have no standing access to customer workspaces — the only way in is if the workspace owner invites a Codoo team member through the normal invite flow. See the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for full details.

Sending feedback

Use the feedback button in the app header at any time. We read everything. During beta, expect response times of a few business days.

Release notes

October 2026Beta — ongoing
  • Legend panel now floats separately from the 3D viewer toolbar, so it stays readable while you interact with the model.
  • Re-check buttons replaced with compact circular icon buttons; re-checks now run in the background without locking the UI.
  • Settings page detects an expired Autodesk connection and shows a one-click Reconnect prompt instead of a silent failure.
  • WebGPU browser-support detection added — if your browser can't run the 3D viewer, you get a clear explanation and upgrade path.
  • Feedback button moved into the app header so it's reachable from every screen.
  • Model switcher: back arrow and model name are now separate controls, making navigation less ambiguous.
Late September 2026Beta launch
  • Beta launched — real testers running real models.
  • Settings page: upload a profile picture, delete your account, manage your Autodesk Forma connection.
  • Workspace Administration page: workspace owners can rename the workspace.
  • Preview a model's 3D geometry before running checks — no check credit consumed.
  • Re-uploads now attach as a new version of the same model, not a new duplicate entry.
  • Forma: version history chips show real Forma version labels and mark skipped versions.
  • Forma: Model Coach now polls for new versions while a model is open and surfaces dead connections.
  • Ledger rows: click anywhere to open, and a real "0" for models with zero coverage change (was a dash).
  • Report drawer collapse control moved to a left-edge drag handle.
  • Workspace header shows the workspace name.
  • Analytics instrumented end-to-end: server-side failures, processing time, and file metadata are now captured even when no browser tab is open.
September 2026Private beta preparation
  • 3D viewer shipped with per-object ID-coverage and source-system overlay colouring, isolate filters, and an admin-only part inspector.
  • Source detection: fixed a bug where a weak platform stamp on a leaf node could block a more-specific ancestor fingerprint.
  • All three checks live: source-application detection, unique ID coverage, and file hierarchy / federation depth.
  • Both ingestion paths live: direct upload (.nwd / .nwc) and Connect to Autodesk Forma (3-legged OAuth).
  • Admin tuning surface: source-system registry editor with live detection-outcome rollups; waitlist approve/decline; feedback inbox; recent runs.
  • Gated beta: new sign-ups land on a queue screen until an admin approves them.
  • Sign-in via emailed one-time code (magic-link tokens were being burned by email security scanners).
  • Landing page: real hero imagery, animated proof card, roadmap section.
